Body lotion
If someone had told me twenty years ago (yes I am that old) that in 2023 I'd be happily making my own body lotion, I'd have laughed in their face while using my Boots Advantage card to buy 3 for 2 on Dove Intensive for extra dry skin. I wasn’t drinking enough water and I was a poor student. I’m trying to reduce the amount of chemicals I use at home and making my own body lotion is so easy (and much cheaper) I wish I’d done it sooner.
Ingredients
200g Shea butter (I use organic and deodorised as I’m not fond of the smell)
150ml Sweet almond oil
50ml vitamin e oil
20 drops of essential oils (I like a mixture of lemongrass, eucalyptus and grapefruit).
These quantities change depending on how solid I want the final lotion to be. In winter I like it pretty thick. In summer I’ll use less Shea butter and more almond.
Instructions
Cut 200g shea butter into equal size pieces and melt in a bain-marie. Once melted remove from the heat and add 150ml sweet almond and 50ml of vitamin e oil.
Mix the butter and oils together thoroughly and add 20 drops of essential oils of your choice. Place in the fridge or freezer until just set (it’ll start to turn white).
Using a hand held electric whisk (if you have one) whip the lotion until your desired consistency. Then decant into a jar.
